700 Fishermen Missing in Burma After Storms

YANGON, Burma -- Nearly 700 fishermen from Burma are missing after a three-day burst of unseasonable storms that ripped apart rickety fishing boats in the Andaman Sea, news reports said Monday.

Rescued fishermen gave harrowing accounts. Some told local media they held on for days to broken bamboo rafts before being rescued by offshore oil companies, Thai fishing boats or Burmese naval boats.

The Weekly Eleven news journal reported that 15,583 fisherman were rescued after the March 14-17 storms whipped up 70 mph winds, battering fishing rafts and trawlers, and sweeping thousands of fisherman into the open seas. It said 682 fisherman were missing.

Members of Congress and Jewish organizations in the US have launched a campaign to minimize the huge damage caused to Israel's image in the US by the Goldstone Commission Report, after Judge Richard Goldstone, in an op-ed piece in "The Washington Post" on Friday, retreated from accusations against Israel in his report on Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2009 for the UN Human Rights Commission.
Reaction to the article is still muted, as it a weekend, a pro-Israel source in Washington told "Globes" that a "flood" of statements, petitions, and even official responses by the House of Representatives and the Senate can be expected in the coming days. He said that Representatives and the Senators will undoubtedly issue non-binding statements calling on the UN to withdraw the Goldstone Commission Report.

A Jewish activist told "Globes" that Goldstone's article will provide ammunition for right-wing members of Congress, who have always opposed US membership in the UN and the US's large share of the UN budget. The source said that some members of Congress will call for a freeze of US contributions to the UN until it officially annuls the Goldstone Commission Report.

The Anti Defamation League national director Abraham Foxman said yesterday that by Goldstone's "rescinding his charge in the UN report that Israel deliberately targeted civilians in the Gaza war is both gratifying and distressing.

"It is important that the author of the report now recognizes, as anyone who knows the history of Israeli military operations already knew, that targeting of civilians runs against everything the Israel Defense Forces stands for. Also significant is the clear distinction he makes between Israel's conduct in investigating accusations and the absence of any such investigations by Hamas."

The American Jewish Congress called on Judge Goldstone to formally ask the UN Human Rights Council to revise and update his commission’s 2009 report on Israel’s campaign against Hamas in Gaza in a way that aligns its conclusions with his new thinking on what transpired.

AJC executive director David Harris said, "The Washington Post is not the place for Judge Goldstone to recant the biased and damaging UN report he wrote on the Gaza conflict. Judge Goldstone should apologize to the State of Israel for the accusations of intentionally targeting civilians, which he now admits were unfounded. He should present his updated conclusions to the UN Human Rights Council, as well as to the General Assembly, which endorsed the skewed report, and press for its rejection."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today told the cabinet, "There are very few instances in which those who disseminate libels retract their libel. This happened in the case of the Goldstone Report. Goldstone himself said that all of the things that we have been saying all along are correct that Israel never intentionally fired at civilians and that our inquiries operated according to the highest international standards. Of course, this is in complete contrast to Hamas, which intentionally attacked and murdered civilians and, naturally, never carried out any sort of inquiry. This leads us to call for the immediate cancellation of the Goldstone Report.

"I have asked National Security Council Chairman Yaakov Amidror to convene a special staff meeting of people from the Foreign, Justice and Defense ministries to formulate practical and public diplomacy measures, in order to reverse and minimize the great damage that has been done by this campaign of denigration against the State of Israel. I expect their recommendations in the coming days. We will act on the public diplomacy front, and on other fronts, with the international community and the UN in order to demand the justice that is due to Israel."

UN chief 'deeply concerned' at Syria situation

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Saturday expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Syria and called for immediate end to use of violence against peaceful demonstrators in the Middle East country.

'The secretary-general is deeply concerned about the situation in Syria, where more civilian deaths have been reported during the latest popular demonstrations,' Xinhua quoted him as saying in a statement.

Ban 'deplores the use of violence against peaceful demonstrators and calls for it to cease immediately,' the statement said.

'The secretary general reiterates his call on the Syrian government to abide by its international human rights obligations.'

On Friday, an armed group fired from some buildings at civilians and security forces in Syrian city of Douma, near the capital Damascus. It left dozens of people as killed and wounded, the state-run SANA news agency quoted an official source as saying.

Anti-government protests erupted Friday morning in various cities including Damascus, Latakia, Banias, Homs and Daraa, where thousands of Syrians took to the streets, calling for freedom and democracy.

Syrian authorities have accused 'armed groups backed by foreign powers' of being behind the recent unrest, during which some 50 people were killed, according to official figures.

When Your Husband Isn't Interested in Sex

Throughout their eight years of marriage, Becky and Matt had enjoyed being part of a close-knit group through their church. Most of the couples had known one another during their college years, had attended each other's weddings, and had celebrated each announcement of newborn arrivals. Because of the longevity of their relationships and how they had together experienced each stage of young-adult life, the couples in Becky and Mike's small group shared openly with one another.

Whenever the women got together for social time, they compared notes on in-laws, labor and delivery, and the common joys and frustrations of married life. Becky was happy to join in on the conversations, except when her friends alluded to sex. All of them griped about how their husbands constantly wanted sex. They joked about creative ways to say, "Not now, honey."

Although Becky chuckled and pretended to share their experiences, these conversations created a deep sense of inadequacy and shame. - 1 kgs pork knuckles, cleaned
- 3/4 cup vinegar
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 20 whole peppercorns
- 1 head garlic cracked
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups of water
- 2 small packs of native mushrooms
- 2 small pack banana blossoms
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup canola oil

Here's the procedure.

1. Marinate Pork knuckles in vinegar, soy sauce, peppercorns, and garlic for 1 hour. In the meantime, place brown sugar in a plate. When pork knuckles are fully marinated, dip each piece in brown sugar and pan fry on the medium high heat until golden brown.Remove and put aside until all pieces are done.
2.In the same pan, put all the meat back and put in all the marinate plus the water. Bring to a boil and then lower the flame immediately to medium low then to a simmer to tenderize the meat.After simmering for about 45 minutes, the sauce will noticeably start to thicken. Add salt and allow to simmer for another 10 to 15 minutes.
3In a separate bowl, soak the native mushrooms and banana blossoms in water for 15 minutes. Once softened, add to the simmering pot of meat. cook until the meat is tender and the sauce is thick.

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S. T. R.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital at 6:00 pm Jane passed away. She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this....

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S *Ask the individual to SMILE.

T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)

(i.e. It is sunny out today.)

R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue... If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke.

Who Is In Control Of Your Life?

Have you experienced things happen in your life without our expecting it would happen. Sometimes we tend feel fear, worried and even cried and feel nervous. Whom you are trusting in circumstances like this?

As a followers of Christ, we know we need to yield Him as Lord of our lives. We can do that without fear as we remind ourselves that we would never be reckless in the way He leads and guide us. We need to learn and relax in Him and believe that He can handle anything He allows to come into our lives.

Although we need to plan and live responsibly, we are wise to recognize Gods control Proverbs 16:9

It is Gods will, not our efforts, that keep us alive and safe. The best place to be is in His Hands.
