How to Accelerate Weight Loss

Weight loss, to be effective, needs to be slow and steady. Any kind of quick dips and spikes in your weight will only lead to short- and long-term frustration. You need to see your weight loss endeavors as part of an overall lifestyle change.

At the same time, this doesn't mean you can't do all you can to try to accelerate your weight loss in the short-term. You can make your fitness efforts more efficient and effective - and you can do so safely. In fact, these following tips will help you do just that:

(1) One of the best ways to build the body you want is to exercise a lot and eat a lot. The more calories you consume and the more you burn in a day - as long as they are close in number - the better your body will look. So, don't try to do little eating and little exercising, or little eating and lots of exercising. Both of these will lead to short-term weight loss, but it won't be sustainable, and it can even be dangerous.

(2) You probably know that cardio is an important ingredient in any weight loss and fitness program. But what cardio is the 'best' for losing weight? Instead of doing long, medium intensity workouts on the treadmill or track, commit to doing high intensity interval training. This will increase your heart rate to intense levels while also allowing you to get the rests in that will let you do the next round of sprints.

(3) Make sure you lift weights. Even if you don't want to get bulked, this is still a crucial ingredient to life long health. And this is true especially for women - you'll lose muscle mass quickly as you age, and you'll need to do whatever you can to preserve it.

(4) You don't need to totally avoid the foods you love. You can still eat your favorite treats as long as you keep the portion sizes under control. In fact, it's important to actually eat those foods that you like so that you don't deprive yourself. Deprivation can lead you to trip up on your health plan and go back to old habits in one huge binge. So go ahead and enjoy life a bit!

(5) Finally, mix in a few cheat days here and there. This will help rev up your metabolism to prevent it from stalling; plus, it will keep you motivated and stop feelings of deprivation, as discussed in point 4 above.
